From Surabaya to Cemara Lawang village
Pick up in Surabaya city - travel to Cemara Lawang village
You will be picked up in Surabaya city. Your friendly and experienced (little) English speaking driver will drive in about 3 to 4 hours to Cemara Lawang. The village at the edge of the ancient caldera in which one can find the active volcano Bromo.
If you like to be picked up before noon, you will have time to explore the Hindu Tengger area in Cemara Lawang together with your drive. Or just walk or do a hike.
When it is about to get dark, you can also witness the sunset over mount Bromo.

Around 03:00 a 4wd Jeep is ready in front of your hotel. You will need just 40 minutes to get near the top of mount Pananjakan. When the Jeep parks, you will have to walk the last part.
Mount Pananjakan is one of the highest viewpoints in the area. Sunrises can be marvelous, depending on weather conditions colours are different every day.
On public holidays and during weekends it can get really crowded at Mt. Pananjakan. You can discuss your options with the Jeep-driver if you would like to avoid some of the crowds. The driver will know the situation locally.
Once back at the Jeep you will ride down hill to the mythical black ashen Sand Sea, also called whispering sand or pasir berbisik in Indonesian language. Ask the driver to stop if you like.
Otherwise the driver will continue the ride to the parking area near mount Bromo. It is a 45 minutes walk (one way) to the top of mount Bromo. Keep looking around as the landscape seems to change with every step you take. Take your time at the top.
Then you will meet your driver again. You will be driven back to your hotel to freshen up, to have breakfast and to check out.
Your next destination is Madakaripura waterfalls. At about 1 hour driving from Cemara Lawang you will start your hike to these enchanting waterfalls. Be ready to get wet!
From the waterfalls it is another hour to your hotel in Probolinggo.

Bromo Park Hotel, Probolinggo - this fairly new comfortable hotel is located near the train station and Probolinggo's city center. It is a small town, with a harbour where mainly wood from Kalimantan gets unloaded. The hotel is about 2 km from BeeJay Bakau Resort where you can have a nice evening stroll.

The first class Ranggajati train departs at 06:50. Take a taxi to get to the train station or take a walk of about 500 m. You will arrive after a relaxing ride with a lot to see. It will be 14:31.
In Yogyakarta it is a 200 m walk to your hotel. Or take a taxi or becak.

Visit the fabulous Borobudur and the amazing temples of Prambanan
Culture: Borobudur and Prambanan
You will be picked up at 06:00.
You first will visit the Borobudur. The drive to the Borobudur in Magelang takes about 1 hour. The Borobudur is one of the greatest Buddhist monuments in the world. It was built in the 8th and 9th centuries AD. You can read all about the Borobudur on the UNESCO website, if you are interested in detailed history. Many different language speaking guides are also available on site.
Next is the Prambanan. Built in the 10th century, this is the largest temple compound dedicated to Shiva in Indonesia. UNESCO also described the Prambanan into the tiniest details.
The Borobudur and the Prambanan can't be compared.
