Itinerary: Bromo sunrise - Bromo tour from Surabaya in 16 hours

Bromo can easilty be reached via Surabaya or Malang. From Surabaya it is a bit further though, and you enter the Bromo-Tengger-Semeru National Park via the north. You travel via Probolinggo to Cemara Lawang village at the edge of the ancient caldera.

Depart midnight: Bromo sunrise tour - the complete package

You will be picked up at your hotel or at Juanda International Airport in Surabaya at midnight; 00:00.
It is a 3 hours drive to Cemara Lawang village, where your 4wd Jeep is waiting for you. You will be heading to Pananjakan. With its 2702 m it is among the highest viewpoints in the area. Master a welcoming hot cup of coffee or tea before sunrise. It can be cold at the viewpoint; between 0 and 10 ºC.
Weather conditions order the colors in the sky and dye the view at mount Bromo. The sun rises fairly fast as Java is just south of the equator.
When the sun has risen, you will be heading by Jeep to the volcanic ashen Sea of Sand. Cross this marvelous product of mother nature.
The Jeep will park near the Hindu Luhur Poten temple. Most often it is closed, but you can take a look while walking by. It is a 45 min walk one way to the top of the active volcano Bromo. Don't forget to look back every now and then as your view is rapidly changing.
Once back at the Jeep, your driver will bring you back to Cemara Lawang. Have breakfast at Cafe Lava Hostel. Then you will be heading back to Surabaya. We can drop you either at your hotel or at the airport.

Optional: you can visit the Madakaripura waterfalls on your way back to Surabaya. Additional costs: IDR 150,000 per person - based on 2 travelers, including local guide, motorbike ride to and back to the starting point of your hike, entrance fee.
