Milky way photography Bromo tour - 1-day tour to one of Indonesia's most legendary volcanoes
Why wait till midnight if you already can depart at 21:00 and add a special moment to your tour... The Bromo Milky Way tour isn't for photographers only, but for all who would like to experience an indisputable starry sky, a magical experience.
You will be picked up at your hotel at 21:00. By private 4wd Jeep, you will drive via Tumpang to Mount Penanjakan in the Bromo-Tengger-Semeru National Park. The drive takes about 2.5 hours. Once at Mount Penanjakan, take your time to gaze at the stars.
Then eventually the sun will rise. Weather conditions, temperature and time of the year will dye the colours in the sky. Every sunrise is different.
When set to go, your Jeep driver is ready as well. You will head into the caldera, to cross the marvelous volcanic black Sea of Sand. Your driver will park near Luhur Poten temple, from where you can walk in about 45 min to the top of the active volcano Bromo.
Take your time.
Once back at the Jeep it is time to return to Malang. You will head back via the savanna south of Mount Bromo. During the wet season bottle green and during the dry season goldish yellow. You can have a stop to visit the Pelangi waterfalls (hiking involved) and the Jago temple in Tumpang.
In general, our guests arrive back in Malang around noon. But the time schedule is up to you as long as you are back in Malang before the sun sets.
Note: as Bromo is an active volcano, every now and then - as unpredictable as volcanoes are - a safety zone might be issued. In that case, one can't climb to the top, but all other parts of the tour can be carried out. Remember that seeing the volcano being active is a privilege as well.
Best time to see and photograph the Milky Way at Mount Bromo
One can find Mount Bromo south of the equator. Although we can see and photograph the Milky Way at any time of the year, the Galactic Center in the southern hemisphere - Mount Bromo lies south of the equator) - the Galactic Center will be most visible from the end of February to the beginning of October. Between April and August are the best months. And then, of course, the rise and set of the moon and sun determine how well and how long the Milky Way will be visible.
